Cassandra Cain, nicknamed "Cass", is the current Batgirl, having taken on the role with the approval of both Batman and Barbara Gordon. She is of Asian descent.

Trained by her father, assassin David Cain, to be the ultimate martial artist and assassin, Cassandra was not taught to read or speak. Instead, the parts of her brain normally used for speech were trained so she could read other people's movements and body language and predict, with uncanny accuracy, their next move. This ability lives up to her namesake; Cassandra in Greek mythology had the gift of seeing into the future, but was cursed so that nobody would ever believe her predictions. This closely related to Cassandra's capability of 'seeing' her opponents next move at the cost of being initially unable to speak. This also caused her brain to develop learning functions different than most, a form of dyslexia that hampers her ability to read and write.

When she was 8 years old, Cain took her to kill a businessman. After she did it, she "read" him as he died, she saw death as the man saw it. "Terror and then ... nothing." In addition to scarring her emotionally, she realized murder, and Cain's profession, was wrong. After this, she ran away and spent the next ten years homeless, beating herself up mentally over what she'd done. Finally, she came to be one of Oracle's agents in the "No Man's Land" Gotham, and took the Batgirl costume after Batman stopped the Huntress from using it.

Her costume is composed of black skin-tight leather. Her mask covers all of her head with the exception of the eyes which are darkened, and the symbolic stitches surround the mouth of the mask. Instead of the original Barbara Gordon Batgirl's yellow bat-logo, Cassandra has a hollow, yellow rimmed one.

After an encounter with a telepath, he "rewired" her brain to think with words (although speaking properly took longer), but at the cost of her ability to predict and read people. Unable to defend herself (although she could still perform the moves, she was now being caught permanently off-guard in combat), Batman stopped her using the costume, and told her to retrain herself. After an encounter with Lady Shiva, Cassandra realized that Shiva could "read" people the way she herself could do before, and convinced Shiva to teach her how to read people again — the cost being that, one year later, the two would fight to the death. Preferring to be "perfect for a year," than "mediocre for a lifetime," Cassandra accepted and Shiva retaught her in a night.

One year later, Cassandra kept the appointment — and died within minutes. Then Shiva restarted her heart, having realized that Cassandra wanted to die (although not why), and wanted a fight Cassandra would try to win. In the ensuing battle, Cassandra realised that Shiva had her own death wish, and defeated Shiva, although she spared Shiva's life.

Recently, Batgirl and Robin both moved to Bludhaven, after the Gotham City Police Department declared all costumed heroes illegal. There, Deathstroke took on a contract from the Penguin to kill Batgirl and decided to let his daughter Rose, the Ravager, do the job instead. Cassandra beat Rose by critically wounding her and giving Deathstroke no choice but to get her medical attention. Considering Deathstroke's commitment to "take a contract, finish a contract," Cassandra will almost certainly be seeing Rose again.

Cassandra was recently in search of her birth mother, who is Lady Shiva. In a quest to clarify the matter, she sought out Shiva and was slain by a fellow student and only other survivor of Cain's training, Mad Dog, while heroically saving Tigris, another martial artist. Currently, Lady Shiva took Cassandra's body to a Lazarus Pit to resurrect her. Afterwards Lady Shiva insisted that they fought to the death and this time Lady Shiva had her neck broken. Cassandra hung her over the Lazarus Pit as her mother's dying wish.

Cassandra also once went undercover in the Justice League Elite as the assassin Kasumi. She revealed herself to Coldcast to tell him that he was not a bad person, right before he was accused of murder.

Superboy is a clone grafted with Superman's DNA, who was introduced in 1993. He was created by Project Cadmus to replace Superman following the Death of Superman, and was artificially aged to mid-teens and implanted with the necessary knowledge of someone his biological age. After Superman's reviving, he was told the boy was created from human DNA only, and had simply been genetically engineered to look like Superman and mimic his major powers by way of telekinesis. Later, Superboy was found to have Kryptonian aspects to his physical makeup, and was finally revealed as half Kryptonian and half human.

While his telekinetic powers allow him to fly, simulate super-strength and generate a highly durable forcefield, in recent months he's developed Superman's hearing and vision powers; it remains to be seen what range of powers he will ultimately develop. He is a stereotypical irreverent teenager, and in his early stories seemed at least as interested in women and licensing his image as crimefighting.

The early stories saw Superboy settle in Hawaii with a supporting cast consisting of his sleazy agent Rex Leech, Rex's daughter Roxy (who later became a police officer), Dubbilex, a "DNAlien" from Project Cadmus, Tana Moon, a TV reporter, and Krypto, a white puppy, not to be confused with Krypto the Superdog. At around this time, it was said that the human genetic donor Superboy was cloned from was Paul Westfield, the unscrupulous senior director of Cadmus, who had been killed in the meantime.

Following a visit to an island based on the Wild Lands of Kirby's post-apocalyptic strip Kamandi, Superboy rejoined Cadmus (which was under new management) and became their official trouble-shooter.

Superboy was one of the first to explore Hypertime. During this journey, he learned that Superman was Clark Kent. The fact his closest "relative" had kept this from him led to a bit of bad feeling between them, but it soon passed.

During the Our Worlds At War, Cadmus was seemingly destroyed. Superboy spent some time living in an apartment block in the Suicide Slum section of Metropolis, working as the superintendent to pay the rent. He has since been taken in by Superman's adopted parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. Feeling that Superboy might feel lonely in Smallville, Superman entrusted Krypto the Superdog into Superboy's care.

It was recently revealed to Superboy that the true donors to his genetic makeup were Superman and the supervillain Lex Luthor. How Luthor and Superman's DNA was used to create Superboy is unknown at this time. Luthor recently revealed that the reason he donated his DNA to help create Superboy was to generate a sleeper agent that he could use to destroy Superman. But when Brainiac and Luthor led an attack against the young heroes of the Teen Titans and the Outsiders using the brainwashed Superboy, the Boy of Steel managed to shake off the implanted mental command and return to his friends, but not before breaking Robin's arm and savagely beating his then-girlfriend, Wonder Girl.

Afterwards, Superboy decided to take a "leave of absence", and secluded himself in the Kents' farmhouse. There, Raven showed him that he had a soul, stronger than his inner demons, though this has not yet spurred him to return to the Titans.

During the Infinite Crisis, the other-dimensional Superboy Prime was revealed to have been been watching Kon during his seclusion in Smallville. Resentful of Kon, who seemingly has the perfect life, this Superboy attacked him, telling him that he would be replaced. This vastly more powerful Superboy pulverizes Kon (leaving him completly drained, badly injured and greatly weakened, in need of immediate medical attention), until the Titans, the Doom Patrol and the Justice Society join the fray. With Lex Luthor's help, Superbopy was brought back to full health.

At first, Superboy's only superpower consisted of "tactile telekinesis," a telekinetic forcefield that surrounded his body as a protective shield, and allowed him to mimic Superman's powers of flight and super-strength. Tacticle telekinesis also enabled Superboy to disassemble anything he touched or, by sending a blast of TTK, blow his opponents away. Recently, Superboy is starting to gain superpowers that aren't derived from his tacticle telekinesis, including heat vision, x-ray vision, superhearing, superspeed; additionally, Superboy also discovered he was no longer reliant on tactile telekinesis for his flight and superstrength abilities. It's believed that Superboy, like Superman, is starting to absorb the energy of Earth's yellow sun, and thus giving him his Superman-style powers.

Superboy is currently unable to absorb solar energy as fast as Superman. So, while he's currently able to fly at over Mach 3 and use superhuman strength on his own, he cannot fight as long as Superman can. If he does, his body starts to eat itself for energy. His tactile telekenisis has recently been shown to be able to manipulate liquids and moisture. Previously he could only control solids.
